Ten Winnipeg foods to try right now

Everyone loves a list. In the eating business, one makes mental lists all the time. Who makes the best French Onion soup? Where can one get a super roasted beet salad? Whose wood-fired oven makes the best pizzas right now?  In Winnipeg, my favourites evolve and change as the city’s dynamic eat and drink scene evolves and changes. Chefs and restaurants also top lists one day and perhaps get usurped by others the next week or month. Food is a fickle business.

With that in mind, here are a few of my must-try Winnipeg eat and drinks: January 2015 edition

  1. Chai Buddha bon bon by Chocolatier Constance Popp
  2. Bearcat pickerel cheeks at Era Bistro at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights
  3. OMG roll at Wasabi on Broadway
  4. Lemon Meringue ice cream (or any flavour) by Cornell Creme
  5. Brisket by The Tallest Poppy, King + Bannatyne
  6. Sophia pizza at Pizzeria Gusto, serrano and pear pizza at Bonfire Bistro or the New White pizza at Carbone
  7. Potato and Beet Latkes at Osborne Village Cafe and potato pancakes at Falafel Place
  8. Macarons from L’epi de Blé and Jenna Rae Cakes
  9. Cappuccinos at Café Postal, Parlour Coffee and Make Coffee
  10. Bulldog Amber Ale by Half Pints Brewing Company
